Guilty Plea in State Street and CTA Attacks Tops Wave of Loop and Brighton Park Safety Reports

Court proceedings, police warnings, and emergency responses in the Loop and other Chicago neighborhoods drew attention from authorities and local news outlets this week. In court news, a woman identified as Jada Beatty pleaded guilty and received a sentence in connection with attacks that occurred in 2025 on State Street at a Macy's store and aboard a CTA train, according to reports from ABC7 Chicago and Hoodline. Court records cited by ABC7 Chicago on Thursday showed that Beatty pleaded guilty to the 2025 attacks on the train and at the Macy's store on State Street, while Hoodline reported that she was sentenced in the case, noting that a bottle was used on two women on the train.

Alongside the court case, law enforcement officials issued an alert regarding street crime in the Loop and nearby neighborhoods. ABC7 Chicago reported on Thursday that Chicago police issued a warning about thieves posing as fundraisers for charity groups. According to the report, the police warning covers activity in the Loop, the West Loop, and the Near South Side.

Separate incidents in the Loop also prompted emergency responses and reports from local residents on Thursday and Friday. On Friday morning, CBS News reported that a man was pulled from the Chicago River near LaSalle Street in the Loop. That river response followed a Thursday report from NBC 5 Chicago in which a Chicago man said he was sucker punched while walking to lunch in the Loop.

Outside the Loop, police investigated a shooting in Brighton Park on Thursday. According to police statements reported by ABC7 Chicago, a woman was shot while riding in a car in Brighton Park, and an alderman said that road rage was a possible cause of the shooting.
